Our Training studio offers professional acting technique rooted in Stella Adler's work for the camera.
"Stella Adler brought the knowledge of a great working actress to her teaching which lent a great practicality to her approach. Stella focused on: imagination, circumstances, justification, and actions... I would be very surprised if the technique you learn here does not come to your aid for the rest
of your life.”
Richard Brestoff: The Great Acting Teachers and Their Methods
Lyme, NH: Smith and Kraus 1995
This class trains actors for live and camera work. In today's market, actors are required to deliver copy as characters and also to "be themselves." To succeed at these immediate transformations, actors learn to become adept at creating characters effortlessly on-the-spot.
We will document the classes to record our process and growth and students will leave each class with a high-quality self tape of their work, made possible by the professional studios at Campbell Talent Group.
As actors, making characters is our art form. It is both fulfilling and fun to learn the rules to create your own work. In each two-hour class, we will learn a new step in the sequence of skills that are necessary to build great characters you can repeat every time you need to.
We encourage you to sign up soon as the schedule is filling up fast.

is among the foremost interpreters of Stella Adler’s work teaching today.
After graduating from Columbia University, summa cum laude with honors in theatre, Janet Scott attended the Stella Adler Conservatory of Acting located in New York’s City Center. For the next three years, Ms. Scott studied acting with the legendary teacher of Marlon Brando, Elaine Stritch, Robert DeNiro, Mark Ruffalo; only a few of the fine actors Miss Adler contributed to the American Theatre and Cinema over four decades. Miss Adler is now considered to be among the finest acting teachers of the twentieth century.
One day at the Conservatory, after Janet finished performing a monologue, Stella took her by the hand and presented her to the class saying “This is an actress. Go out into the world and act.” Ms. Scott continues to enjoy a career on stage, in television and film that spans over forty years. Stella Adler remained a mentor and beloved friend until her death in 1992.
Today, there are many fine teachers of Stella Adler’s work. But this was not always the case. Upon the completion of her studies at Miss Adler’s conservatory, Ms. Scott recognized among her peers the need for acting training that offered an empowering, replicable artistic practice centered in the actor’s imagination. In the mid 1980’s, Ms. Scott found studio space in the historic Ansonia Hotel on West 72nd Street and started showing a few friends how to do Stella’s acting exercises.
Raised in the centuries old traditions of the Yiddish theatre, Miss Adler approached acting with reverence. For many years, Ms. Scott never dreamed of calling herself an acting teacher. She never advertised her classes, but her studio was always filled by word of mouth from actor to actor for the next twenty-five years. Ms. Scott considers this to be the greatest accolade of her professional career.
In the aftermath of 9/11, Ms. Scott relocated to Lexington, Kentucky and began a career training opera singers in Stella Adler Acting Technique. Once again, Ms. Scott’s acting studio took off. Within a few short years, singers trained by Ms. Scott went on to perform at the Metropolitan Opera, New York City Opera and major opera houses around the world. In summers, Ms. Scott served on the faculty of the Berlin Opera Workshop. In 2016 Ms. Scott received an appointment at the University of Kentucky School of Music where she continues to teach a graduate seminar in acting skills for opera singers.
Ms. Scott is represented by Heyman Talent Louisville. She works regularly in television and film as the entertainment industry rapidly expands in post-Covid Kentucky. Ms. Scott often recalls Stella Adler’s words, “No matter where you go in the world, your theatre lives inside you.”
